Cuba

Despite still tense relations and travel restrictions between the USA and Cuba, the rest of the world has come to recognize Cuba as a great holiday destination and Cuba has realized the importance of the tourist dollar to its economy. As this awareness has grown, Cuba has made strides to make its island nation more hospitable to tourists. Today Cuba is a great family vacation destination and boasts very low crime rates and very reasonable prices.

From the beaches of Varadero to the city of Havana, there is a plethora of activities for the intrepid and a stunning array of beaches and relaxation for the less active. Some of the activities and must see attractions are as follows:

Swimming with Dolphins
For a nominal fee you and your family can swim with dolphins at a number of different locations. The Veradaro Delfinario located in the Punto Hicacos Nature Park is one of the larger centers and offers shows as well as swimming with the dolphins. The Bahia de Naranjo Nature Park offers swimming with the dolphins in large, outdoor water pens. You can also swim with these wonderful mammals at the Delfinario in Cienfuegos.

Scuba Diving
One of the more popular activities in Cuba is scuba diving and there is no lack of scuba centers around the island. Dive centers offer equipment for rental as well as guided tours of sunken ships, coral reefs and various pockets of marine life. Some of the best areas to depart on your scuba adventure are Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo and Guardalavaca.

Deep Sea Fishing
Opportunities to take advantage of world-class deep sea fishing are plentiful in Cuba. From organized group tours to boat charters, this is one activity that should be tried at least once. Let the professional and competent boat staff help you gear up for a day on the water reeling in great catch.

Old Havana
With the Museo de la Revolucion, Old Havana is an excellent place in which to see this historic part of Cuba. Old mansions, cigar factories, street festivals and more await the intrepid traveler. Explore on your own or barter for a guide to show you all there is to see, but don’t miss spending some time in Old Havana.

Bellamar Caves
Located outside of Varadero, this system of underground caves is full of underground rivers, ponds and stunning crystal sculptures. The guided tour takes you through six halls and 17 galleries of natural beauty.

Beaches
Cuba has many beautiful beaches made of silky white sand and turquoise waters. Some of the most popular and famous beaches include: Varadero, Esmeralda, Guardelavaca, Santa Lucia and more. Despite the popularity of these beaches there are many more sheltered and nearly deserted beaches in Baracoa or on the Guanahacabibes peninsula.

No matter what you choose to do during your visit to Cuba, one thing remains is for certain: the people are warm and hospitable, the variety of accommodations is large and you won’t lack for things to do.
