Alvor

Alvor holidays offer large uncrowded beaches and peace and quiet. It’s a pleasant place for couples and families to unwind from the demands of a busy life. The region is a pleasant blend between the ancient fishing village and a modern resort.

The Town of Alvor

Alvor, situated in west Algarve, was once an ancient fishing village and port, but it has now become a modern holiday destination. Although, as a resort, it is less developed than Portimao, it has a charm all its own. Sitting
on the mouth of River Alvor, it is a quiet place with a lot of ancient history.

The original village still exists, consisting of old fisherman’s cottages, a church constructed in the 16th century, and the ruins of a castle built in the 13th century. The cobbled streets are narrow and a reminder of a distant past. There is also a village square and a promenade facing the water.
Modern restaurants and bars line the promenade. Restaurants at the harbor serve traditional Portuguese meals and local specialty fish dishes. Diners can eat on terraces and enjoy the outdoors.

The Beaches

Torralta beach in Alvor is 4 miles long. It is an uncrowded sandy strip with good facilities. Another superb beach is the stretch connecting Alvor to Portimao. Then there are the picturesque beaches of Praia da Rocha, Prainha, Praia do Vau, and Praia dos Tres Irmaos.
